The first announcement of frost came early this morning when the announcer predicted frost in the area was possible tomorrow. Now that was a wake up call! Yes the frost will soon be on the pumpkin but it is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Guess that I was a little surprised because there has only been a slight hint of the fall colours, but, in retrospect there are a couple of signs that the summer was coming to a close. Now it’s time to get ready for the fall fairs, harvest markets, craft shows and farmers markets. Now is the best fishing time of the year, and the best time to get low accommodation prices especially for mid week bookings.

We had a perfect night to see the blue moon rise over McGregor Bay last night.
It was fantastic. Now we wont have the opportunity to see another till the year 2015. Until then we might just have to be satisfied with only one full moon a month. What a start for the Labour Day Long weekend

Check out the local attractions, farmers markets and road side stands and stock up on the sweetest peaches and cream corn ever. This year the local corn has been fantastic. I can almost smell the aroma of camp fires and hear the soft chatter of kids while they toast marshmallows. This season has passed so quickly it’s hard to believe that it is just about gone. There is even a tint of color in the leaves especially in the sumac, poplar and maple trees.
The fishing has been especially good in the last couple of days the cooler temperature at night has started to cool the lake down which in turn triggers the feeding instinct in many of our sport and pan fish. The days are growing shorter but there is still a lot of sunshine that you can take advantage of while the weather is favorable. Can you guess what kind of nest this is?
The Purple martins have gone but there are still many of the song birds, raptors and of course the ospreys that are still here along with the many water fowl. Check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=nA3LtXnNIto You can see the same exhibition of the skill of the ospreys right here in McGregor Bay. It seems that they like fishing here in the bay too.

This is the third day and the flocks are not there. Guess that it’s official they are gone. As I wright they are probably flying over the US heading South on their way to South America for their winter home. Cant wait till next spring when they will return once more.

The morning started of to be challenging to say the least. Was it going to rain or not. Would the threatened thunder storms materialize? Still 10 teams of 2 were ready regardless of the challenge. Boats ready packed with the best bait, their lucky rods and lures and wing and rain gear. Nothing was going to stop them.
Just before blast off the sun came out and the rest of the day was perfect fishing weather. Warm temperature, sunny with cloudy intervals and moderate wind.
All 10 teams were back at 16:30 for the weigh-in. Congratulations to the winner with 5 fish for 13.94 lbs.
All fish that were caught were live released back into McGregor Bay to be caught once again.
Waiting for the results is always an anxious time barging rites are at stake.
It is always a pleasure to host the OCAA fishing tournaments Congratulations to the winners .

The lake was calm and there were wispy fingers of fog rising off the surface of the water. The morning was was cool but not cold a wonderful freshness was in the air. From across the bay I could hear an outboard start and then make out the outline of a single person and a dog as they startedout across the bay probably going to his favorite fishing hole.
Sitting at the end of the gas dock was out resident Blue Heron. Priceless!

The rain was off and on all day today. It was welcomed by almost every country dweller and farmer. Lawns, pastures and wells for most of us were parched and were screaming for moisture. Over the several hours you could see the grass turn from a parched yellow to green.
The tree leaves seemed to look more vibrant; the native flowers in the meadows and imported flowers plants in gardens and planters perked up immediately.
The air was fresh and and cool. I swear that even our goats and donkey were pleased. The the lake level rose ever so lightly but it was welcomed. All in all a great day.

The grass is showing signs of stress and some rain would be nice. Especially one of those warm summer rains. Now just mellow out, find a book, and get into a serious reading state. Yes we have a lending library with all kinds of books I’m sure that one is just perfect for you. I can remember when I was a kid, growing up in the little sleepy community of Woodlands playing in the warm summer rain. Now that was a flashback! Given the chance I bet todays kids would do the same.
The long weekend is comeing up fast, no rain in the forecast and we still have a couple of openings. It’s a great time to have some “family time” here at Highland View Resort.
The breeze from the lake is refreshing. The summer sounds are everywhere. Watch the Ospray as it glide over the bay and dive into the water from their perch in the sky. If it is lucky, it will explode from the water, labouring to get back into the air with a fish firmly grasped init’s talons.
Summer is a great time to be out in the country.
